One Day Until Home

Well, this is the end of another James Gang adventure.  We are spending the night in Ellensburg, Washington tonight and should be home tomorrow.  We have all really enjoyed another trip across our beautiful country with the added bonus of seeing a few of the states too.  But even though we love being on the road, we miss our home, our beds, our toys, our friends and family, so we are all looking forward tomorrow.  Thank you for following along with us.  God Bless.

Until the next time we take a trip.....

Westward we go

This is a pic of Nathan dipping his toes in Lake Superior in Michigan.

After our rather bumpy ferry ride from Tobermory, we drove across Manitoulin Island to Sault Ste. Marie where we crossed into the US.  We drove through upper Michigan along Lake Superior and stopped at a wayside to dip our toes in it.

We are now in Malta, Montana tonight....only a couple of days from home.  I am so looking forward to sleeping in my own bed and cooking in a full size kitchen!  There is not much to report as we are just driving from one campground to another, eating, sleeping and doing the same thing the next day.  We were in Rugby, North Dakota last night, which happens to be the geographical centre of North America...bet you didn't know that. :)

This is our good bye pic of the family cottage on Dyer's Bay, ON....my favourite place on earth.

Tomorrow we are heading to Glacier National Park.  Hope you are all enjoying your summer.  God bless.

Back to Ontario

Yes, another post so soon....can you believe it!  I leave it so long between posts that I forget where I left off, so sorry if I repeat myself or leave something out....but I guess you won't necessarily know that it's been left out.....anyway.....I'm off topic....so here we go.

On our return to Ontario, we noticed that the RV was having some transmission problems, or so we thought.  We were aiming for Acton, ON, but had to stop short in Cornwall to have it checked out.  We found a small campsite (only 26 sites) and the next morning the owner of the campground showed us where to have the RV looked at.  The mechanic determined that it wasn't the transmission, but just a sensor that could be easily changed, but the part had to be ordered in.  We phoned our friends in Acton and had Glen order the part for us there.  We then drove the rest of the way to Acton.  The part came in the next day and Dave and Glen took the RV in and had it fixed.

It was August 1 when we got to our friends, the Sheepwash's, which happens to be Landon's 8th birthday.  They had made cupcakes for him.  We spent 4 days there and had a wonderful time.

We left the Sheepwash's on August 5 and drove to Dyer's Bay, ON where my family has a cottage.  We met my Uncle John and Aunt Aileen there and enjoyed a short visit with them as they had to get back to Essex for work.  We stayed a couple more days.  We swam, through rocks in the water, played cards, watched the hummingbirds and chipmunks.  I loved going to the cottage as a child and I still love it the same today.  A storm rolled in on Thursday (August 9) with high winds, which made huge waves and caused us to lose power a few times.  We had to leave Friday morning to catch the ferry from Tobermory to Manitoulin Island.  It was a rocky boat ride for sure as the winds had not died down.  We learned that Becca gets seasick!  Poor girl :( She wasn't the only one, the whole boat was full of people using the little white baggies the staff had laid around on all the chairs.

We drove to Sault Ste. Marie and had pizza for supper and crossed the border around 7pm.  We are now in a KOA campsite in Newberry, Michigan.  We are on our way home....should be there in about 6 days.  See some of you then. :)

Some Nova Scotia/PEI pics

The first pic is canoeing in Annapolis Royal, NS
#2 is in Hampton, NS
#3 is Sarah's poison ivy legs
#4 is Katie holding "George" the lobster before his plunge into the pot
#5 is dinner at the Wood's home in Freetown, PEI

Yes...finally a post!

Hi there everyone.  Sorry for the long delay.  I had sort of given up using the blog because it seems so much slower than fb and we don't always have good internet, so I want to get my info and pics up as quickly as possible.  Today I checked my email and noticed that not everyone is on fb and was wondering what was happening with us, so here is a quick update.

We are currently in Acton, ON at the Sheepwash's house.  We got here August 1 which was Landon's 8th birthday.  Katia had prepared some cupcakes and we had a nice little party.  We will be here until August 5 and then we are off to Dyer's Bay, ON to my Uncle John and Grandma's cottage.  Love that place and can't wait to get there!

Now backing up...we spent most of our time in Nova Scotia checking out the Annapolis Valley.  Absolutely beautiful! We spent alot of time around the Kentville area and looked at a few houses. We enjoyed visiting with the Burton's and the lobster feast they hosted.  Love the property they found...they just moved from BC a couple of months ago.

Sarah contacted poison ivy somewhere in Ontario and she reacted very badly.  By the time we got to Nova Scotia she was absolutely miserable, so we took her into the Kentville hospital.  They gave us a prescriptions and it started to clear up within a couple of days.  A week later, she developed an abscess and was in considerable pain.  We happened to be at the Wood's house in PEI at the time and Marlowe drove us into the Summerside hospital.  She had to go under general and have the abscess opened and drained....poor kid :(  She has just finished her run of antibiotics and is feeling sooo much better.  So we have had our tour of the maritime hospitals too! If you have to use one...they are lovely.

Our visit with the Woods (other than Sarah's little surgery) was wonderful.  The children had a great time getting reaquainted.  The Paiva family came to PEI too and we met up with them at Cousin's Beach, PEI.  It was nice to see all of them.

Well, that is our eastern side of the trip in a very small nutshell.  Hopefully I can post some pics for you, but I will get this posted first.

Oh, and Laurie...thank you for the invitation, but I think we are going back home through the states, so we will not be near you. Are you coming to BC anytime soon?  Hope you are feeling okay. Talk to you soon.

Saying hi to the Sheepwash's and saying good bye to Grandma.

The end of our Ontario visit

We had such a great time visiting with family and friends in Ontario.  On Thursday, we ordered pizza and spent our last night in Essex visiting with Grandma and Skyping Mom in BC.  On Friday we packed up our things and had a short visit with some old friends of my parents, who had driven in to see us.  We left Grandma's around 1 pm and headed to the Dairy Freez just outside of town to meet my friend Kim and her kids for lunch.  We soooo look forward to a trip to the Freez whenever we get to Essex!  We ordered our lunch and when she brought it to us, she announced that their power had gone out and that we couldn't get any of our milkshakes or Boston Coolers!  UGH!!!! That also meant no ice cream desserts!!!!! We ate our lunch hoping that the power would come back on before we had to leave, but it didn't happen. :(

We said good bye to Kim and set out on the road to Acton, Ontario (near Toronto) to visit our dear friends, the Sheepwashs, who had just moved to Acton from BC.  We miss them terribly!  We arrived at their house around 9pm and was warmly greeted with hugs and lasagna!  We had so much fun with them.  The bigger children walked to the local pool for a swim while the little guys stayed at the house and enjoyed the slip and slide.  That night we made s'mores around a campfire in their backyard.  Nathan missed out on the roasted marshmellows because he fell asleep in his lawn chair....so cute.

We left Sunday morning, well 1pm....morning for the James :) and are now in St. Hyacinthe, Quebec.  We rolled in late (around 11:00 pm), ate a quite supper and went to sleep.  We are now all having showers and packing up to leave.  We hope to get at least half way through New Brunswick today.

Good bye for now... miss you all.  Talk to you soon.

Pics from Essex

Back in Canada - Essex, Ontario

We arrived back in Canada through the Port Huron/Sarnia border crossing on July 1 - very patriotic of us to return home on our nations birthday!  We pulled into Grandma's house in Essex around 10:30 pm and got Grandma out of bed where she was talking on the phone with my mother, so mom found out that we arrived safe and sound.

We have been here a couple of days and have enjoyed visiting with Grandma, Uncle John and Aunt Aileen and my childhood friend, Kim and her family.  As a matter of fact, we have just returned from Kim's house now (quite late) as we tend to talk and talk!  She made us a very yummy lasagne.  I wanted to eat more, but was too full.

The weather is hot and humid, as usual, but not as bad as last time we were here.  We brought them some rain from BC, which, unlike British Columbians, they really appreciated.  I guess it hadn't rained here for a long time....until we arrive of course!  We had thunder and lightning all day today, but we didn't have any RV leaks!!! yeah!

Tomorrow, Grandma and Grandpa Wuerch are coming out from Windsor for a visit and then we are off to Uncle John and Aunt Aileen's house for supper.  Hopefully Amber will be able to make it in from Windsor for supper too.

Well, should go to bed...it is 2:37 am....another early night! :)

From BC to Minnesota

Hopefully I can get this blog posted!!!! We have been having some technical difficulties.  Yes, we left on Friday and yes, late.  The first time we left it was 12:30 pm.  We got as far as Mt. Lehman and realized that we had forgotten the privacy cover for the front window of the RV, so back we went.  We left the second time at 2:30pm.  The Neufelds were gracious and waited supper for us.  We had such a wonderful visit with the Neufelds.  The teens entertained us with music - Ben played the fiddle, Matt played the guitar, Sarah played the piano and Zach played the accordian.  This was his first time playing an accordian and with a little practice, he caught on to it quite well.  The children swam in the rain, but didn't seem to mind.

On Sunday, we all (including the Neufelds) headed to historic O'Keefe Ranch near Vernon, BC.  That was so much fun and we didn't want to say good bye, but we parted ways around supper time.  We pulled into Osoyoos and had a lovely gourmet dinner of bbq'd hotdogs. :)

On Monday, we headed to Oroville and crossed the border into Washington.  We stopped at the Grand Coulee Dam and enjoyed the sights and some lunch.

We drove through Gracier National Park and stopped for some huckleberry pie and icecream in a little place called Hungry Horse, Montana.

Montana is a very windy place!  We camped in Cut Bank, Montana and the RV was rocking all night long!

Tonight we are in a KOA campground near Duluth, Minnesota.

I've discovered that it takes a long time for pics to upload on this blog, so most of our pics will be on facebook.

Well, gotta go the kids are back from the pool and I can't hear myself think anymore....my peace and quiet time is over....hopefully blog at you soon.

As you can see from the pic above, the children are counting down the days until we leave. This is the white board in the diningroom.  What....a white board in the diningroom???? Yep that's right...we homeschool...no Martha Stewart here!

As the white board indicates, tomorrow is the big day.  We hope to be done everything and pulling out around 11am.  We told the Neufelds we would be at their house (in Salmon Arm) for supper.  Thankfully, the Neufelds have known us long enough to know to make supper late, as the James's are always late....we run on Dave time!

As the Neufelds only have dial-up service, I probably won't post anything new until we have gotten to the States...hopefully Sunday....but remember, we are always late! :)

Please pray for us for safe travels.  Take care and God bless.

The James Gang Rides Again!!!

Well, we are doing it again....that's right....the James Gang are heading out on another cross-country RV adventure!!!!  We are planning on going through the US for much of our trip this time for a change of scenery and to hopefully save some money in gas. We invite you to follow along with us.  We won't be doing as much sightseeing this time as our goal is to get to Nova Scotia as fast as possible to be able to look at as many properties as we can before we have to head back to BC.  That's right...we are thinking about buying a home and moving to Nova Scotia.  Stay tuned......the adventure starts Friday.
